FAQ - Aloha Auto Rentals

  1. Do I need an international license to rent a car? We have staff members that can read Japanese; a license in any other language will need to be accompanied by an international license. In addition, it always helps to have an international license in case you get pulled over, as the officers may not be able to read your license.
  2. If I have an international license, is that enough to drive with? No, you will always need your original license as well.
  3. Do I need insurance? Yes, it is illegal to drive without insurance. The best option is for you to provide us with your pre-existing insurance policy information. If you do not have insurance, we can attempt to get you temporary coverage. Please inquire ahead of time so we can begin the approval process.
  4. Is there a mileage limit? No, since we are on an island we do not place a mileage restriction on our renters.
  5. Can I request a specific car? You can make a request but we will always have to go with what is available. We will do our best to meet your requests.
  6. How long does it take to process the reservation, pick up, drop off? Details may differ based on your reservation. A regular reservation made over the phone for someone with pre-existing insurance will take about 20 minutes. Verifying your insurance will depend on your provider, but usually less than 5 minutes. Pick-up and drop-off process takes about 10 minutes each. For long-term rentals(over a month) we will require you to bring the car in for check-ins.
  7. Does the gas have to be full upon return? It depends, if you are given a full tank, you must either return it full or may for the prorated cost of gas not replaced.
  8. Can I extend my rental? Yes you can as long as we haven't already booked the car for the time frame you are requesting.
  9. What if I get pulled over or a ticket while driving the rental? If you are pulled over while driving the car, any penalties against you as the driver will be your responsibilities. Any parking tickets for violating parking rules will also be the drivers responsibility. Always notify us of any tickets.
  10. What if I get in an accident while driving the rental car? If the car is damaged while in your possession, you must notify us immediately. Insurance claims will be filed and costs will be taken care of that way. If there is an accident involving another person, you must file a police report right away and inform us of the incident as well. You will incur financial penalties if this protocol is not followed.
  11. Can I cancel my reservation? If you decide to cancel your reservation, we will refund all but 25% of your base rate (the amount of the rental not including fees and taxes). This applies to all cancelled reservations with the exception to medical emergencies that would prevent you from traveling to Oahu (example: positive covid test result).
