FAQ - Aloha Auto Rentals
- Do I need an international license to rent a car? Yes, you will need an international license permit to drive our rental vehicles if you are licensed somewhere other than the United States.
- If I have an international license, is that enough to drive with? No, you will always need your original license as well.
- Do I need insurance? Yes, it is illegal to drive without insurance. The best option is for you to provide us with your pre-existing insurance policy information. If you do not have insurance, please inquire ahead of time so we can begin the approval process. If you are doing a long-term rental, we will get you a quote for insurance through Progressive.
- Is there a mileage limit? Yes, mileage is limited to 100 miles per day.
- Can I request a specific car? You can make a request but we will not be able to guarantee that request will be met as our inventory fluctuates regularly. We will do our best to meet your requests.
- How long does it take to process the reservation, pick up, drop off? Details may differ based on your reservation. A regular reservation made online for someone with pre-existing insurance will take about 10-15 minutes. The pick-up and drop-off process takes about 10 minutes each. For long-term rentals (over a month) we will require you to bring the car in for check-ins each month for your safety, and for the health of the car.
- Does the gas have to be full upon return? Please return the tank at the same level you received it. This will usually be half a tank or a full tank.
- Can I extend my rental? Yes you can as long as we haven't already booked the car for the time frame you are requesting. We recommend that you request an extension at least 24 hours before your current reservation ends.
- What if I get pulled over or receive a ticket while driving the rental vehicle? If you are pulled over while driving the car, any penalties against you as the driver will be your responsibility. Any parking tickets for violating parking rules will also be the drivers responsibility. Always notify us of any tickets.
- What if I get in an accident while driving the rental car? If the car is damaged while in your possession, you must notify us immediately. Costs for damages and excessive cleaning will be deducted from your $250 deposit. Insurance claims will be filed when necessary. If there is an accident involving another person or their property, you must file a police report right away and inform us of the incident as well. You will incur additional financial penalties if this protocol is not followed.
- Can I cancel my reservation? If you decide to cancel your reservation, we will refund all but 25% of your base rate (the amount of the rental not including fees and taxes). This applies to all cancelled reservations with the exception to medical emergencies that would prevent you from traveling to Oahu (example: positive covid test result). Other covid related amendments may apply based on tourism related decisions made by the Government of Hawaii.
